ABS Pilates…..Celebrating 5 Years!

ABS Pilates of Sunbury, Ohio, is celebrating 5 years! Can you believe it? I sure can’t! I remember purchasing my first reformer seven years ago and training my neighbors in my basement next to the toy dinosaurs and Barbie house. In August of 2012, I
decided to hold my breath and jump out of the corporate world into a world full of great reward with some of the best clients I could ever imagine.

Over the years I have been very blessed to see this business grow. I now have 7 reformers and hold at least one class each day. I have over 90 clients including private clients and class participants. We now have a larger space and unfortunately the dinosaurs and Barbie dolls have all been packed away. I owe all that I have been able to do to my loving, supportive family and my wonderful clients.

I want to thank each and every one of you for all of your support and am toasting us all for many more years of health, wellness and great posture!

ABS Pilates is a specialized Pilates Studio servicing Sunbury, Columbus, New Albany, Gahanna, Westerville and the surrounding areas.  ABS Pilates offers classes, private Pilates and Semi-Private Pilates.  All classes are taught by Amanda B. Smith, licensed physical therapist, certified Pilates instructor, McKenzie Certified Therapist and ACE certified group exercise instructor with more than 25 years of experience.

ABS Pilates specializes in providing services to the most deconditioned and the most athletic.

Judy Woodruff…..Client Spotlight

***I decided to do a little client spotlight over the next few months to celebrate all the special people who have come across my path. I have had the pleasure of knowing Judy Woodruff since 2013. She is such a strong, kind person. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her and seeing her build her strength over the years. She is so kind to everyone who is around her. She has been such a huge support as I have grown ABS Pilates. I wanted to have her give you a little bit of information about her Pilates story. Thank you, Judy, for all that you do!

Judy’s Story…..

As I was progressing through my 60s, the acrobats alongside of just age began taking its toll on my body. Some of the issues I was facing were: hamstring weakness, pelvic floor weakness, meniscus deterioration, shoulder issues, kyphosis with my back as well as arthritis of the spine and other parts of my body.

Upon seeking attention first with a sports doctor with hamstring issue I was sent to physical therapy. It was recommended by the therapist that I might consider attending a pilates class at the Westerville Community Center. In the spring of 2013 I followed her instructions. I signed up with Amanda in her restorative pilates class on Tuesday and Thursday morning. After a few months of these classes I started seeing results helping with the issues I was experiencing.

Amanda at that time had decided to move out of Corporate America as a physical therapist and become a small business owner teaching pilates in her home on the reformer and tower. I thought if I could feel so much improvement from the mat classes I might be able to benefit even further from adding the equipment classes in her home. I decided to give it a whirl.

As I approach the age of 72, I cannot tell you how these pilates classes have literally changed the quality of my life. As she would add classes like the barre class and arc/playground classes, I would be so excited to add them to my schedule. My flexibility and posture as well as the issues aforementioned have improved by at least 90%.
I attend anywhere from three to five classes a week and if I miss any for whatever reason my body lets me know.

Amanda is a physical therapist and is so very knowledgeable about the body which affords all of us clients so much comfort and knowledge during class. She is ready each class session with a planned lesson plan based on our needs.

When I am finished with the class, I always tell her that my body feels like it died and went to heaven. Her cueing throughout the class are always wonderful and simplified. She will always answer any questions we might have.

My core strength has strengthened beyond what I would have ever believed possible even as a young girl. My only stress is when her schedule is posted I am so fearful that I will get closed out of a class. Therefore, on November 13, 2013 with the assistance of Amanda, I began on one of the greatest journeys of my life that has enhanced my mobility beyond any expectations I could have imagined.

I thank Amanda, Kevin, and the daughters for allowing Amanda to go for her dream as she is changing the lives of so many people and for that I will be forever grateful.
